We hear much about this commodity swelling the center aisles of our grocery stores. There are lots of manufactured tastes to create a desire for the “munchies” every day. This stuff is causing unusual problems in our bodies. Time to cut down? “Oh, but I’ll have just one more!”
As a kid, I loved the flavor rich fun world of junk food. I had my favorites, but the older I got the more I could feel something different, some foods made me feel more “fed.” I came to the realization there was a subtle feeling of aliveness when eating veggies and fruit. That contrasted with other things I ate. I guess I was fortunate to feel the difference between what is food and “the junk.” Now-a-days, I have fewer fun favorites and I can see that some places in our country lack access to the those things that allow me to feel nourished by what I eat. Someone called them “food deserts.” When I travel to see family, I have learned to pack food for the journey through the “food deserts” to get to the places where I can successfully find the food that nourishes, and re-stock. In my car there’s a cooler for fresh red & green peppers, carrots, orange & apple slices, and grapes. That’s the adventurer’s diet for the day long journey through the modern day desert. Stay alert, stay alive eat the things that help you feel alert, feel alive and hydrated (they contain some water for quenching the thirst = fewer pee stops).
George, I enjoyed your experience with junk food and the realization about it that your body gave you. You were alert to its message. Next you took action to get to the healthy stuff even if it’s a trip. I’m sure your body is smiling!
